The 1970 Brazil team featured the likes of Pele, Jairzinho and Rivellino, and is considered by many to be one of the greatest of all time. In the final against Italy, Carlos Alberto epitomized <em>joga bonito </em>with one of the finest ever World Cup goals, scoring with the outside of his right boot to finish a flowing move.

The defender is a part of the World Team of the 20th Century and was inducted into the Brazilian Football Museum Hall of Fame. Flamengo called his death an "irreparable loss," while Santos wrote on Twitter "Thanks for everything, Carlos Alberto Torres"
