The DS Virgin Racing team have had a mixed 2015-16 season.

There have been highs -- British driver Sam Bird took the checkered flag in Buenos Aires last February. There were also three other podium finishes -- one for Bird and two for his French teammate Jean-Eric Vergne.

Formula E isn't Branson's first foray into top level motorsport. In 2010, Virgin Racing competed in the Formula One world championship.

Among his team was Formula E star Lucas di Grassi (second from left). The Brazilian was runner-up to Sebastien Buemi in the 2015-16 championship.

IAAF president Sebastian Coe was one of the VIP guests who attended Sunday's final Formula E race of the 2015-16 season in Battersea Park.

The streets of the Thames-side park were transformed into a 1.8-mile racetrack.

Formula E cars currently have a maximum speed of 140 mph and are powered entirely by electricity.

The batteries, supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering, are pushing renewable energy forward. One of the key purposes of Formula E is to showcase battery technology and promote electric car use in cities.
