I was astonished; we stretched out as far as I could see, thousands of us," one of the marchers, Fred Sargeant, <a href="index.php?page=&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.villagevoice.com%2Fnews%2F1970-a-first-person-account-of-the-first-gay-pride-march-6429338" target="_blank" target="_blank">told the Village Voice</a> decades later. "There were no floats, no music, no boys in briefs.
