Renault reborn: The newly resurrected team has brought in the highly-rated Danish driver Kevin Magnussen.

Renault, seen here with its temporary black livery during winter testing last month, has been involved in F1 since the 1970s either as a constructor or engine supplier, but sold its team to Lotus in 2010.

Magnussen was released by McLaren in 2015. "Not many drivers get a second chance but I've been given a really good one," the Dane told CNN.

Magnussen will be partnered by rookie Jolyon Palmer, previously a test driver at Lotus. "Now I've got my own race car, I can push hard, be aggressive, and hopefully get some results," the Briton told CNN.

Renault has a strong pedigree, with Spanish driver Fernando Alonso winning back-to-back world championships in 2005 and 2006.

Michael Schumacher, F1's record seven-time world champion, won his first world title with Renault -- then known as as Benetton -- in 1994, and repeated the feat the following year before joining Ferrari.

Renault president Carlos Ghosn (center) is expecting drivers Palmer (left) and Magnussen (right) to build the foundations for another era of success in 2016 and beyond.

Renault had helped Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull to win four successive driver and team titles from 2009, but their relationship soured after the manufacturer could not adapt to new engine rules introduced in 2014.
