Mexico's passionate motorsport fans are ready to embrace Formula E as the electric race series makes its bow in Mexico City on March 12.

Mexican racer Salvador Duran is fully focused on the first-ever Mexico City ePrix. "I'm counting down the days and preparing every single day," he told CNN.

The ePrix will be held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. The track is named after brothers Ricardo and Pedro Rodriguez, who both died in motor racing accidents. Ricardo, seen here driving a Ferrari in 1962, was tipped as a future F1 world champion before his death at the age of 20 the same year.

Brazilian Ayrton Senna won the Formula One Mexican Grand Prix in 1989 but also had a couple of big shunts at the fearsome Peraltada corner. The famous curve is included in the new Mexico City ePrix layout but with a chicane taming its fearsome reputation.

"I grew up in Mexico City," enthuses Duran. "You have to go and see all these beautiful places!" The hometown racer's top picks include a visit downtown to the smart district of Polanco with its trendy restaurants and bars.

The latest James Bond film "Spectre" opened with a stunning sequence set in Mexico City, including this rooftop run by actor Daniel Craig.

As far as the Formula E title chase goes, Sam Bird of DS Virgin Racing (front) won round four in Buenos Aires but Sebastien Buemi of Renault e.Dams (behind) still leads the drivers' championship. "Anybody can still win the title at this stage that is for sure," predicts Duran.
