Gianni Infantino was elected as the new president of FIFA after seeing off his four rivals in the second round of voting. The general secretary of UEFA, Europe's governing body, replaces Sepp Blatter at the top of world football.

Infantino, who polled 115 votes in the second round, finished ahead of main rival Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, who received 88. They both finished ahead of Jordan's Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein and Frenchmana Jerome Champagne.
