Mahindra Racing's star driver Bruno Senna poses with fans on the sand at the Punta del Este resort in 2014.

Antonio Felix da Costa drives past the dunes in 2014. "The sand on the track makes it difficult for the tires to grip the road," Formula E commentator Ben Nicholls tells CNN.

Swiss racer Sebastien Buemi notched his first win in the electric car racing series in Uruguay in 2014.

Buemi won the opening race of the 2015-16 season in Beijing in October, and had pole position in Malaysia last month for the second successive round but suffered battery power problems.

Sharing the podium at round two in Putrajaya were race winner Lucas di Grassi (center), runner-up Sam Bird (left) and third-placed Robin Frijns (right). Holding practice, qualifying and the ePrix in a single day means the podiums can be tricky to predict.
