U.S. 100m record-holder Tyson Gay also competed in the Oregon heats and finished with a time of 9.85s. The 32-year-old, a world champion in 2007, was one of 10 athletes to beat 10 seconds in the qualifiers.

Bromell has already represented his country, helping the U.S. win 100m relay gold at the 2014 junior world championships in Oregon, where he was second behind teammate Kendal Williams in the individual event with a time of 10.28s.
