Gone are the days of just the traditional racecourse picnic hamper as top chefs are brought in to overhaul Royal Ascot's cuisine.

Some 100,000 people will be fed over the course of the five day event -- which started Tuesday.

Michael Caines, who boasts two Michelin stars, will oversee the racecourse's flagship restaurant On5.

Caines (far right) unveiled the menu at a photocall alongside London's River Thames in the build-up to Ascot.

Lorry loads of food have been delivered to the kitchen ranging from asparagus, which will be served with a beef main course...

...to wild mushrooms, which also features as part of the meat main course. A total of 180 diners will visit the restaurant each day.

Last year Ascot chefs included (from left to right) Gemma Amor, Tom Kerridge, Atul Kochhar, Raymond Blanc, guest, Guy Krenger and Steve Golding.

There are those that still opt to bring their own culinary delights, with the trademark racing picnic present amid the on-course action.
