Buddies Novak Djokovic, left, and Andy Murray squared off in the French Open semis Friday. Djokovic had won seven in a row against the Scot.

And the Serb came out firing two days after he beat "King of Clay" Rafael Nadal. Djokovic, on a 27-match winning streak, dictated with his ground strokes and was impeccable on serve.

But spurred on by the crowd after hitting two big forehands at 5-5 in the third set, Murray improbably won the third to prolong the encounter.

They were eventually forced off because a storm was on the way, causing bad light. Djokovic led 6-3 6-3 5-7 3-3.

The winner will face Swiss Stan Wawrinka, who broke French hearts again. After starring for the Swiss against France in the 2014 Davis Cup final, Wawrinka ousted Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in four sets.

Their early-afternoon contest was played in heat that hit about the mid-30s Celsius. Tsonga lost for a second time to Wawrinka at Roland Garros.

He did hit the shot of the match, though, striking a flicked, one-handed backhand passing shot past Wawrinka.

Ultimately he failed in his bid to become the first Frenchman to make the Roland Garros final since Henri Leconte in 1988.

Wawrinka moved into his second grand slam final after triumphing in Melbourne last year. There he beat Nadal in the final.

Wawrinka is looking to accomplish the rare feat of winning both the junior and men's titles at the French Open.
