'El Nino' —
He's played for some of Europe's biggest clubs, but now Fernando Torres is back with the team where he established a reputation as one of the world's most feared strikers.

Torres back home —
Torres is determined to prove his worth during his second spell at Atletico Madrid, where he started his career in 2001.

Boy wonder —
A youthful Torres forged his reputation with his goalscoring exploits for Atletico during his first spell with the Spanish team. He made his debut at the age of 17 and two years later was the club's captain.

Best of teammates —
Torres says he enjoyed his best moments in football playing alongside Steven Gerrard during his Liverpool glory days, having left Atletico in 2007.

On top of the world —
He won the 2010 World Cup with Spain but played a limited role in South Africa after suffering a knee injury near the end of the English season.

Record transfer —
Torres moved to Chelsea from Liverpool in January 2011 for a British-record transfer fee of £50 million ($75 million).

Champions League winner —
Torres struggled to justify his price tag at Chelsea, but lifted the European Champions League trophy in 2012 -- his biggest club honor -- after scoring a key goal in the semifinal against Barcelona.

Spanish hero —
Torres holds aloft the Euro 2012 trophy during a victory parade after Spain's triumph. He scored in the final against Italy.
Consolation goal —
Spain disappointed in the 2014 World Cup, exiting after only two games, but Torres was on target against Australia in their final Group B match in Curitiba -- his last of 110 international appearances, and his 38th goal for "La Roja."

World Cup woe —
Spain's disappointing display in Brazil brought its era of domination in world and European football to a close.

San Siro switch —
Unwanted by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Torres was loaned to Italian club AC Milan at the start of the 2014-15 season.

Real wrecker —
After scoring just once for the Serie A side, he returned to the Vicente Calderon Stadium. Torres helped Atletico eliminate city rival Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Spanish Cup with two goals in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. He scored again in the quarterfinal defeat by Barcelona.
