Mercedes' reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton has bought a limited edition Ferrari.

"LaFerrari" -- one of 499 in existence -- is a hybrid car that boasts a maximum speed in excess of 350 km/h (217 mph).

Hamilton recently cruised to victory at the Australian Grand Prix beating his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg by 1.3 seconds and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel by more than half a minute.

A LaFarrari, which costs in excess of the $1.5 million, was showcased in front of the New York Stock Exchange last October.

Money is no object for Formula One's superstar whose net worth was reportedly $101 million in 2014.

Notable for their "Rosso Corsa" -- or race red -- color, Ferrari cars often attract attention.
