Fowler partnered veteran Jim Furyk in his first match, but committed a schoolboy error on hole two when he took a drop from the mud but used a different ball to the original, costing the U.S. the hole. He made up for that with a putt on the last to rescue a half from the match.

Fowler was pipped to two major titles by Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy in 2014 but the pair go way back, first meeting in the 2007 Walker Cup -- the amateur equivalent of the Ryder Cup. Fowler was victorious in his match against McIlroy as the U.S. won 12½ - 11½ against Great Britain and Ireland in County Down.
