Stephy Chung is currently the acting Senior Editor of CNN Style, driving culture coverage across platforms for CNN’s worldwide audience. She leads editorial on major events, series and sponsorships, while overseeing the daily production of multimedia distinctives and stories.
At CNN, Chung’s work has centered on the intersection of culture, art, and identity. In 2023, she created the series Design for Impact, which spotlights architectural solutions for communities displaced by the climate crisis and natural disasters. She also created “Hyphenated” in 2021, which explored the complex issue of identity among minorities in the US and the award-winning series “Culture in the era of Xi” in 2019, which examines how culture in China has evolved since Xi Jinping’s rise to power.
Chung has been on the CNN Style team since it was originally founded in 2015 and is the Asia Editor based in Hong Kong, having previously served as a senior producer and producer.
Prior to joining CNN, Chung lived in Beijing and produced videos that featured in various publications including The New York Times, The Guardian and The Atlantic. She covered the city’s avant-garde art, architecture, and design scene; documented China’s punk subculture; and interviewed the late starchitect Zaha Hadid at her then newly-opened Galaxy Soho building. She also directed and produced short-form documentaries including “Building M+,” which captured the inspiration behind Asia’s most ambitious visual culture museum and “The Kiyotomo Sushi Bar.”
Originally from the US, Chung holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Illinois.
