Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown speaks during a press conference on Wednesday.

There is “tremendous fear” among the immigrant and refugee communities in Spokane, Washington, its mayor said late Wednesday, as anti-ICE protests flared in the city.

Large groups of protesters took to the streets of Spokane on Wednesday afternoon, carrying signs and blocking roads, according to video from CNN affiliate KHQ. They were demonstrating outside an ICE facility against raids and potential deportations.

More than 30 people have been arrested, according to Spokane police chief Kevin Hall.

Brown earlier Wednesday declared a state of emergency and announced a curfew in certain areas, which will last from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. local time.
