What we're covering
• Authorities still hunting for the perpetrator of the deadly mass shooting at Brown University are pursuing a new lead based on photos and videos of a person taken around 2 p.m. Saturday, hours before the attack. The suspect is “approximately 5’8” with a stocky build,” said the FBI, which announced a $50,000 reward leading to an arrest and conviction.
• A person of interest detained earlier in connection with the attack has been cleared, but the early focus on that person may have delayed the investigation by up to a day, a CNN security analyst said.
• The shooting left two students dead and nine others injured at the Ivy League school in Providence, where classes and exams have been canceled. The campus remains on edge, and the governor has ordered a sweeping review of school safety measures. At least 75 school shootings have unfolded this year in the United States.
New evidence may come to light in Brown shooting as residents return home after the weekend, CNN analyst says
As law enforcement combs through images from all available cameras, more evidence from the Brown University mass shooting may come to light following the weekend, CNN analyst and former DHS Assistant Secretary Juliette Kayyem said.
“Now the city is back open (…) people who weren’t around Saturday and Sunday were back at work yesterday. Maybe they’ll find something,” she told CNN’s John Berman.
The lack of images of the shooter from inside the building highlights the suddenness of the attack, Kayyem told CNN.
“We generally do get sort of real time pictures,” she explained. “I think that shows the suddenness of this — he comes from behind, and then everyone is hiding.”
Brown shooting suspect "5'8 with a stocky build," FBI says

The FBI released new photos and a description Monday night of a person they describe as the suspect in Saturday’s fatal shooting at Brown University.
The new photos show part of the man’s face, covered by a mask and beanie, which officials have said could be key in finding the suspect. The person is dressed in dark clothing in the photos and is “approximately 5’8” with a stocky build,” according to a poster released by the FBI.
Law enforcement has been searching the community for the suspect and asking the public to contact them with information regarding the shooting.
“Most evidence is now gone,” CNN analyst says of search outside Brown shooting scene

As the investigation into the deadly shooting at Brown University stretches into its fourth day, weather and delays are hampering the search for the shooter, CNN analyst and former DHS Assistant Secretary Juliette Kayyem said.
“It’s snowed (…) most evidence is now gone,” Kayyem told CNN’s John Berman. “If he dropped something, if there were fingerprints or whatever — most of it would be gone.”
The FBI “sort of saying we’ve got our guy,” while they had a person of interest, Kayyem said, delayed the investigation by 18 to 24 hours. “So it’s just going to be harder for them.”
“This is unfortunate, and the public does not want to see law enforcement agencies sort of throwing each other under the bus,” Kayyem added.
