About

Sottile joined CNN as a trending reporter covering culture and viral news in 2022 after interning first for CNN’s digital team in Hong Kong and then for the Live news team in New York.

As a national reporter, she has covered major stories including the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, US airstrikes in Iran, the war in Gaza, mass shootings, and police brutality.

Her feature reporting has included in-depth profiles of people affected by the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration; reflections from transgender elders amid attacks on LGBTQ rights; a deep-dive on a teenager fatally shot by New York police; and a story on the refugees using soccer to form community in New York City.

Before joining CNN, Sottile worked as a humanitarian researcher in Amman, Jordan, and was one of the founding journalists at Jordan News, where she covered COVID-19, an attempted coup, and the 2021 Gaza War.

She studied human rights and Middle Eastern studies at Columbia University. She is a dual US-Italian citizen.
