Sylvie Zhuang is a Senior China Reporter for CNN International based in Hong Kong.
In this role, Zhuang is tasked with bringing an on-the-ground understanding of China for an international audience.
She covers China’s politics, culture, and diplomacy with an emphasis on interpreting the Communist leadership’s decision-making and how it shapes the country at large.
She is also a contributing writer to CNN’s Meanwhile in China newsletter.
Since joining CNN, Zhuang’s reporting has focused on US-China relations, including the historic summit between China’s leader Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in 2026.
Before joining CNN, Zhuang was a Senior Reporter in Beijing for the South China Morning Post, and she previously worked as a researcher for international organizations including the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
Zhuang completed her Bachelor of Arts in Communications at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and obtained a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Social Service Administration from The University of Chicago.
