Sabrina Souza is a newsgathering producer based in CNN’s New York bureau, covering breaking news for the network’s television and digital platforms. She has reported on high-profile legal stories, including Donald Trump’s criminal trials in Manhattan, Senator Bob Menendez’s federal corruption case, and the National Rifle Association’s civil fraud trial.
She spent nearly three months in Pittsburgh covering the first federal death penalty trial of the Biden administration, the prosecution of the shooter responsible for the deadliest mass shooting of Jews in U.S. history. Her work at the United Nations Headquarters contributed to CNN’s Emmy Award-winning coverage following the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel. She has also reported from Texas on devastating floods in Kerrville, producing and reporting live coverage from Camp Mystic in the immediate aftermath.
Her field reporting has also included investigations into Trump-era immigration policies targeting international students, original reporting on pro-Israel advocacy groups submitting names for deportation, which prompted responses from lawmakers and advocacy organizations, and coverage of former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s taxpayer-funded legal defense against sexual misconduct allegations. Additional assignments have taken her to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to cover the Governor’s Mansion and to locations across the Northeast for extreme weather events.
Before joining the New York bureau, Souza was a production assistant in CNN’s Washington, D.C., bureau for Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? on CNN and HBO, helping launch the program on CNN+ in 2022 and producing interviews with high-profile guests from politics, entertainment, and business.
Souza began her CNN career in 2020 as a Political Unit intern, covering national elections, special elections, redistricting, voting rights, and polling trends.
She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Miami and a bachelor’s degree in political science with minors in Journalism and Mass Communication and French from The George Washington University. She is fluent in Spanish and speaks French. Originally from Miami, Florida, she is proudly Mexican.
