Miriam Elder is Executive Editor for Features at CNN, overseeing Entertainment and Style coverage.

Before joining CNN in 2025, Elder was Executive Editor at Vanity Fair, where she led The Hive, the magazine’s hub for politics, technology and business coverage. Prior to that, she spent eight years at BuzzFeed News, where she founded the World desk and led a team of reporters and editors based around the globe. She also served as a senior politics reporter, covering Donald Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign.

From 2006 to 2013, Elder was based in Russia, reporting on politics, business and culture, including serving as Moscow bureau chief for The Guardian. Earlier in her career, she worked in Paris at the International Herald Tribune and Agence France-Presse.

Her work has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Vanity Fair, The Atlantic and other publications.

In 2023, Elder was named an Edward R. Murrow Press Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. She has also edited several books. Elder is based in CNN’s New York bureau.
