Michael Callahan is CNN’s Senior Director overseeing the National Security & Justice beats in the Washington bureau. He leads a talented team in delivering dynamic, insightful reporting on these critical pillars of power. Callahan’s leadership focuses on shaping critical news coverage of the Pentagon, State Department, Justice Department and intelligence agencies, while supporting the growth and success of his team.

Callahan joined CNN in 2016 where he led CNN’s National Security beat. Before joining CNN in 2016, Callahan was a Senior Producer at Bloomberg Television and prior to that was a White House Producer for the network. Callahan started his career in journalism at ABC News’ ‘This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts.’

He has received three Emmy Awards, most recently for his work with his team as part of CNN’s breaking news coverage of the Israel-Gaza war and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Callahan is originally from upstate New York and is a graduate of The Catholic University of America.
