Matt Meyer is the weekend editor for CNN’s Live News team, helping lead coverage of breaking news and live events.

He joined CNN in September 2022 and works out of the Los Angeles bureau. Collaborating with journalists across the globe, he’s covered wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, US presidential and midterm elections, and other major stories for millions of readers on CNN.com. He’s also led live coverage of high-profile weekend events including the Super Bowl, Oscars, Olympics and World Cup final.

He was previously a digital reporter for Nexstar affiliate KSWB in San Diego. He covered California wildfires, the coronavirus pandemic, local politics and crime. He also produced and hosted a streaming news show on the station’s website and app.

Before his time in San Diego, Meyer worked for a weekly newspaper in L.A., where he covered education and produced several multi-part investigative series.

Meyer graduated from UC Santa Barbara, where he studied political science and professional writing. He grew up in Upland, California, east of L.A.
