Leigh Waldman is a correspondent for CNN Newsource, based in New York, reporting for the network’s more than 1,000 affiliate partners nationwide. Since joining the network, Waldman has covered the deadly 4th of July flooding in Central Texas, the devastating impacts of hurricanes along the Gulf, school shootings, and astronauts aboard the Boeing Starliner’s historic launch and return.

Before joining CNN in 2024, Waldman was an investigative reporter at KSAT 12 in San Antonio, Texas, the top-rated station in the market. She played a leading role in the station’s team coverage of the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting, work that earned an Emmy Award, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, two Telly Awards and a Texas Broadcast News Award.

At KSAT, Waldman helmed enterprise and led investigative stories for the station’s 10 p.m. newscast. She also created and hosted “Texas Crime Stories,” the market’s No. 1 podcast, producing multiplatform audio and visual storytelling focused on high-impact true-crime cases across Texas.

Previously, Waldman served as weekend morning anchor at WOWT in Omaha, Nebraska, contributing to the station’s coverage of historic snowstorms, widespread Heartland flooding, and the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also worked as an anchor, reporter, and producer at Victoria Television Group in Victoria, Texas.

Waldman holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
