Laurie Frankel is a Producer II at CNN Business. She is the editorial force behind the site’s flagship show “Markets Now,” which streams live every week on CNN Business. Frankel also writes digital videos for CNN Business, copy edits print stories, and produces taped pieces and sponsorships for CNN’s television networks. One of her specialties is crafting video explainers that break down complicated economic topics.

Frankel began her career at CNN in 1996 as a video journalist at Headline News in Atlanta. She rose through the ranks as a Writer, Associate Producer and then Producer. In 2000, Frankel moved to New York, where she began producing financial news updates for CNN, HLN, and CNN International. Her duties included field producing live reports from the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq MarketSite. Frankel went on to produce segments, packages and interviews for CNN’s weekend business shows, “Your Money” and “Your Bottom Line,” as well as CNN’s weekend media show “Reliable Sources.” She transitioned to CNN Digital in 2014, where she began working on livestreams and digital video and was promoted again in 2019. After more than 20 years at CNN, Frankel is seen as a mentor in the newsroom and teaches writing classes for her digital video colleagues.

Laurie grew up in Glen Rock, New Jersey. She graduated from Vassar College with a degree in Political Science.
