Kasha Patel is a senior science reporter for CNN Weather. She has more than a decade of experience covering the Earth sciences and cosmos across text, video, podcast and live performance. She shares her science journalism through fun videos on her social media channels.
Before joining CNN, Kasha spent nearly five years at The Washington Post diving into the scientific curiosities of our weather, environment, life on Earth and the greater universe through text and video, including a weekly column called Hidden Planet.
She previously wrote about satellite research and natural hazards at NASA and hosted an award-winning miniseries on NASA TV highlighting Earth science research in the field. She especially loves explaining space weather, but has only seen the aurora twice by accident — once while playing in her bocce ball league and another while on an airplane. She covered the discovery of a new aurora-like phenomena called STEVE (Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement) and received NASA’s Exceptional Achievement Team Award.
She also hosted podcasts for Discovery’s Shark Week and Undark magazine and has appeared on The Weather Channel and BBC.
