Jeff Winter is a producer with CNN’s New York bureau, where he reports on domestic terrorism, mass shootings and breaking news.

Since joining the bureau in 2023, Winter has covered terrorist plots, law enforcement operations and legal cases in New York and across the country alongside CNN Chief Law Enforcement and Intelligence Analyst John Miller.

His deeply reported stories on veterans’ issues include investigations into the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs denying benefits to families of vets who died by suicide and the role treatment courts play in the lives of vets struggling with sobriety.

Previously Winter worked alongside CNN Investigates and other teams, including Quest Means Business and CNN Heroes.

A Chicago native, Winter studied English and Film at The University of Iowa and holds a Master’s from CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism. While a grad student in 2021, he broke the first news story about New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ financial ties to Turkish donors.
