About

Emily Kuhn is Senior Vice President of Communications at CNN Worldwide, where she manages executive, internal and external communications, promotional publicity and events for CNN’s global platforms and programming, including newsgathering operations, digital subscription business and CNN Originals. She is based in New York.

Managing the global communications department and team across the United States, UK, Europe, and Asia-Pacific region, Kuhn sets the strategy for the department, aligning teams across time zones and functions to deliver cohesive messaging, drive organizational priorities, and strengthen the company’s reputation with audiences around the world.

Kuhn began at CNN as a publicist in the Washington bureau a few months ahead of the midterm elections in 2014 with a focus on building and strengthening the digitally native CNN Politics and CNNMoney brands. After the 2016 presidential election, which included a host of partnerships and engagements with social networks and emerging organizations in VR/AR, video distribution and social outreach, Kuhn’s portfolio expanded to include the entirety of CNN Digital Worldwide and its global presence across more than 40 platforms as the #1 global digital news destination in the world.

In managing communications strategy for the digital business, she oversaw publicity for hundreds of journalists and producers around the world, along with product managers and engineers building and supporting the technology behind CNN Digital. Kuhn also led internal messaging and corporate communications for the Chief Digital Officer and digital leadership including memos, messaging and internal and external engagements. Additionally, she ran show publicity for the Sunday morning show Reliable Sources, along with the show’s digital output in newsletter, podcast and extended formats.

Kuhn managed the communications strategy and publicity for the launch of CNN’s direct-to-consumer streaming subscription service and the streaming strategy for the network, which included launching 19 live daily and weekly shows, and a new slate of nonfiction offerings across Original Series and Films. She also continues to oversee CNN Communications’ web and social media presence.

Kuhn joined CNN after several years at a public affairs agency in Washington, DC, supporting corporate, advocacy, government and non-profit clients, with a specialty in digital and social media and crisis communications.

She holds a master’s degree in digital and political communication from Johns Hopkins University. She is also a graduate of Miami University (OH), where she majored in strategic communications with a minor in political science.
