David Mack is a Senior Pop Culture and Power Reporter with CNN based out of the network’s New York bureau. He reports on and analyzes the people, trends and entertainment shaping culture and public conversation.

Prior to joining CNN, Mack spent nearly nine years as a senior editor and reporter at BuzzFeed News, where he helped shape the outlet’s distinctive editorial voice while covering breaking news, entertainment, internet culture, celebrity and politics. During his tenure, he broke news on subjects ranging from RuPaul’s Drag Race and And Just Like That… to CrossFit and Congress. Mack also interviewed numerous celebrities as the host of several BuzzFeed programs across digital platforms, including X, Facebook and Snapchat.

Before BuzzFeed News, Mack began his journalism career at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, where he worked as a radio and television producer in Sydney and Washington, D.C.

In addition to his newsroom experience, Mack has written extensively as a freelance journalist. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Slate, Rolling Stone, Bustle, The Daily Beast, Yahoo News, and New York Magazine’s Vulture and The Cut.

Mack has more than 15 years of experience in digital journalism and broadcasting. He holds degrees in law and media/communications from the University of Sydney.
