About

Alison Main is a producer and reporter for CNN’s Capitol Hill team.

Since joining CNN in 2018, Main has covered three presidential administrations and breaking news stories in Washington, the US and around the world, including the 2024 presidential election, the January 6 riot and its aftermath, the coronavirus pandemic, the Surfside condo collapse, the Uvalde school shooting and the war in Ukraine.

During the 2024 presidential election, Main worked as campaign embed based in New Hampshire and the Midwest.

Main’s reporting spanned countless presidential campaign events in Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’s sprint to win over support in battleground states after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

She also covered the presidential campaigns of Chris Christie and Dean Phillips, the New Hampshire primary election, both the Republican and Democratic national conventions and highly competitive Senate races in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Main started at CNN’s Washington, DC bureau as a political unit intern. She worked on the assignment desk, anchor and field produced for Boris Sanchez and wrote and produced for “Inside Politics” and “New Day Weekend,” as well as for special events coverage.

Main graduated from the University of Southern California in 2018 with a degree in journalism and minors in political science and cinematic arts. She is from St. Louis, Missouri.
