• Tariffs: President Donald Trump said today he agreed to delay imposing a 50% tariff on European Union imports until July 9 after a “very nice call” with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Trump said “talks will begin rapidly,” and von der Leyen said that “Europe is ready to advance talks swiftly and decisively.” The news came after the president ratcheted up his trade war Friday, threatening 50% tariffs on goods from the EU as early as June 1.
• Trump criticizes Putin: Trump said today he doesn’t know “what the hell happened” to Russian President Vladimir Putin and that he is “not happy with what Putin is doing” after Moscow launched its largest aerial attack of its three-year war on Ukraine overnight.
• Trump’s megabill: The fate of the president’s “big, beautiful bill” now lies in the Senate, where some Republicans are signaling resistance over the national debt, Medicaid and other elements of the sweeping spending and tax cuts package. Democrats are decrying the potential loss of benefits for millions of low-income Americans. Trump acknowledged today that some “fairly significant” changes could be coming for the bill.
