Her career at CNN has spanned more than a decade where her expertise has helped evolve the network’s interactive and visual storytelling. Prior to joining CNN, she was a graphic designer and art director, her experience in advertising and editorial design led her to a career in interactive journalism where storytelling and design intersect.
Originally from London, Mankarious has lived and worked in Mexico City, New York City, Buenos Aires and a small village in Japan. Her experience of living in other countries strongly informs her design practice today: she encourages audiences to look at the world a little differently through stories about shared experiences in diverse cultures, and intriguing facts about our world.
In 2021, Mankarious won an Emmy Award for co-reporting, designing and producing the interactive feature ‘How American police gear up to respond to protests’. Other notable projects include the multi award-winning animated series ‘Colorscope’ that explores our perception of color – which Mankarious conceived and produced, – and an immersive feature following three Gazans who chronicle their struggles to survive after 15 months of Israeli bombardment.
Mankarious has been invited to speak about interactive journalism on stages at creative festivals such as Offf and IAM, both in Spain; AIGA in Pittsburgh; Creative Works in Memphis and Design Friends in Luxembourg. She regularly guest lectures for MA Journalism students at London College of Communication, University of Arts.
She holds a joint BSc (Hons) in Philosophy and Psychology from Roehampton University and an MA in Journalism with distinction from Birkbeck, University of London.
