Pallabi Munsi is an Emmy Award-winning multi-platform Investigative Reporter & Producer, writing and producing stories from Europe, Middle East and Africa, with an eye also on the Asia Pacific region. She is based at CNN’s London bureau.
Combining whistleblower and witness testimonies with data analysis and open-source intelligence, Munsi has worked on multiple investigations for CNN’s TV and Digital platforms. Her work – many of which have been discussed in houses of law – focuses on accountability in its many shapes and forms: human rights violations, security and espionage, war crimes, and gender inequality.
From its outset, Munsi has contributed heavily to the network’s coverage of the war in Sudan that started in 2023, working closely with Chief International Investigative Correspondent Nima Elbagir uncovering war crimes, human rights violations and arms supply channels. She also led research on the investigations that form part of Elbagir’s documentary “Going Home: The War in Sudan”, which won an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Investigative News: Long Form category in 2024. For her work on Sudan, she has been part of a team that has been a runner-up at the AIB Awards in 2023 and shortlisted for the Foreign Press Association awards.
She has also extensively led long form investigations as part of the network’s coverage of the Israel-Hamas war, the fallout of the protests in Iran following Mahsa Amini’s death and the civil war in Myanmar following the military coup in 2021.
A journalist with over 14 years of experience, Munsi joined CNN in 2021 as the Asia Reporter for the network’s As Equals initiative, dedicated to reporting on gender inequality around the world.
Munsi launched a number of major investigations from the Asia-Pacific region in this role, including a reporting into how skin whitening practices in India are fuelling a dangerous drug dependence, and a piece exploring instances where female pro-democracy activists had been doxxed by pro-junta groups in Myanmar — which was also one of the first CNN stories to use artificial intelligence for newsgathering. For her work at As Equals, she has been part of a team that won the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi Award in the Inequalities in Society category in 2022, a Silver Lovie Award in 2023 and a commendation at the Drum Online Media Award in 2022. Her work has also been shortlisted for British Journalism Awards.
She was initially based at CNN’s New Delhi bureau and moved to London in 2023.
Born and raised in India, Munsi holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Presidency College in Kolkata, India, and a post graduate degree in journalism from the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai, India. In addition to English, she is fluent in Hindi, Bangla and Urdu.
