About

Stephy Chung is CNN Style’s Asia Editor, driving culture coverage across platforms for the network’s worldwide audience. She previously served as a senior producer and producer on the team.

At CNN, Chung’s work has centered on the intersection of culture, art, and identity. She’s interviewed influential voices like Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei and the ‘grandmother of performance art’ Marina Abramovic, and produced distinct videos including a 2025 mini-documentary on how the Philippines became a beauty pageant powerhouse.

She’s created and led on multiple series including Design for Impact, which spotlights architectural solutions for communities displaced by the climate crisis and natural disasters; “Hyphenated, ”which explores the complex issue of identity among minorities in the US; as well as the award-winning series “Culture in the era of Xi,” which examines how culture in China has evolved since Xi Jinping assumed power.

Prior to joining CNN, Chung lived in Beijing and produced videos that featured in The New York Times, The Guardian and The Atlantic. She covered the city’s avant-garde art, architecture, design and music scene. Elsewhere in Asia, she directed and produced short-form documentaries for major museums including “Building M+” and “The Kiyotomo Sushi Bar.”

Originally from the US, Chung graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She is based at CNN’s Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong.
