She also writes about Social Security, safety net programs, the federal budget and tax policy. She has covered presidential candidates’ health care and economic policy proposals since the 2008 election.

An explanatory writer, Luhby focuses on informing readers of the importance and impact of policy decisions made by Congress and presidential administrations.

Before joining CNN in early 2008, Luhby was a personal finance columnist at Newsday and covered retail banking for Crain’s New York Business. She teaches at Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism, from which she graduated in 1997.

A lifelong Bronx resident, she is also a triathlete and marathon runner.
