Legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor is known for his confessional lyrics, soulful voice and delicate guitar-playing.

The six-time Grammy Award-winner was originally discovered by a Beatles talent scout when he was just 19. In 1968, Taylor recorded his debut album, which includes two of his most-loved songs: "Something In The Way She Moves" and "Carolina In My Mind."

In his second album, he released his classic "Fire and Rain," which rose to No. 3 on the Billboard 100 in 1970. The song is about the suicide of a friend and his own depression when he was 22-years-old. Taylor wrote the Grammy-nominated album while in a psychiatric hospital trying to kick a heroin addiction.

Taylor performed countless hits, including "Sweet Baby James," "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" and "You've Got A Friend."

"I have a very direct emotional connection with almost all the songs I write," said Taylor. "And sometimes it's something that resonates with other people."

Fans continue to turn to Taylor's music to lift their spirits and ease their pain.

The 73-year-old singer is still releasing new music and touring. In 2020, he released his new album, "American Standard."
