Tributes poured in on Saturday for Alan Henning, the British aid worker who was killed by ISIS militants in a video released on October 3. CNN
Friends, family and mourners laid flowers and messages for Henning in his home town of Eccles, northern England, over the weekend. CNN
The 47-year-old taxi driver was part of a team of volunteers who traveled to Syria in December 2013 to deliver aid. CNN
"Alan was a decent, caring human being. His interest was in the welfare of others," his wife Barbara Henning said in a statement on Saturday, October 5. CNN
"It is the news we hoped we would never hear. As a family we are devastated by the news of his death. There are few words to describe how we feel at this moment," his wife said.
"Alan Henning was our local and national hero," read a statement from Manchester Central Mosque on Saturday. "We will remember him as a tireless and selfless volunteer aid worker whose only concern was to help people in need." CNN
Talha Ahmad, a spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain, said Henning's death had united "Muslims of all shades and colors" against ISIS. CNN
