In March’s Winning Post, Aly Vance visits Chile on the trail of one of South America’s most famous horseraces, the Gran Premio Latino. This year it’s hosted at perhaps the most beautiful courses on the planet, Club Hipico in Santiago.
The event boasts the largest prize pool in Latin America and pits the continent’s best horses against each other.
Vance’s journey starts in the Andes Mountains though where the trekking guide is one of the Chilean “Arrieros” – originally herdsmen possessing unique horsemanship skills – who helps provide an insight into a more traditional way of life.
