Niasse banned after "successful deception of a match official"

Third player to be banned in English football this season

Everton striker Oumar Niasse has become the first English Premier League player to be banned under new Football Association (FA) diving rules.

The Senegalese international won a controversial penalty in his club’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace Saturday, going down under a challenge from Scott Dann.

Niasse was officially charged with “successful deception of a match official” Tuesday, after referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot following the incident.

The 27-year-old Niasse had his appeal against the decision turned down by the FA and he will now serve a two-match suspension.

Leighton Baines took the penalty to level the scores at 1-1 – Niasse later went on to score Everton’s second equalizer as the match finished 2-2.

An independent three-person panel, made up of one former player, a formal official and a former manager, unanimously agreed on the decision to charge Niasse.

The new rules, introduced in May of this year, have already seen two lower division players suspended for two matches.

Shaun Miller, a forward for fourth tier Carlisle, was banned for two games in October and Bailey Wright, a defender for second tier Bristol City, was given the same punishment earlier this month.
