With less than five minutes left to play and needing one more goal to avoid Champions League elimination at the hands of Olympiakos, Gerrard -- in front of the Kop end -- ran onto Neil Mellor's header and hit the ball on the half volley, sending it arrowing into the bottom corner. Perhaps Gerrard's most defining moment in recent years came against Chelsea at Anfield. Liverpool were on course for their first league title since the 1989-90 season before Gerrard slipped and allowed Demba Ba to run through on goal and score.
