Rickie Fowler has had a 2014 season to remember, finishing in the top five at all four major tournaments. His form suggests he'll be one of the key men in the United States team that will try to wrest the Ryder Cup back from Europe from September 26-28. Scott Halleran/Getty ImageS/FILE
The 25-year-old made his debut in the biennial battle between Europe and the U.S. at Celtic Manor in Wales in 2010. Though Fowler didn't win any of his three matches, he was instrumental in rescuing a half-point from two matches as the U.S. lost by one point. TIMOTHY A. CLARY/AFP/GETTY IMAGES/FILE
Fowler partnered veteran Jim Furyk in his first match, but committed a schoolboy error on hole two when he took a drop from the mud but used a different ball to the original, costing the U.S. the hole. He made up for that with a putt on the last to rescue a half from the match. Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images/FILE
Fowler was pipped to two major titles by Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy in 2014 but the pair go way back, first meeting in the 2007 Walker Cup -- the amateur equivalent of the Ryder Cup. Fowler played in the next installment of the Walker Cup in 2009 and won all four of his matches as the U.S. triumphed 16½ - 9½ at Merion in Pennsylvania. The next year he was selected as a captain's pick by Corey Pavin to play in the Ryder Cup. David Cannon/Getty Images/FILE
Fowler's first and only PGA Tour victory to date came at the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship, when he beat McIlroy in a playoff. The world No. 1 has had the better of their rivalry recently though, pipping Fowler to the 2014 British Open and the U.S. PGA Championship titles. Streeter Lecka/Getty Images/FILE
Fowler played with Ryder Cup veteran Phil Mickelson in the final round of the U.S. PGA as both vied for the title. Mickelson famously hired a ping pong coach to help him in the team room competitions at the 2013 Presidents Cup. Jeff Gross/Getty ImageS
But with Mickelson's erstwhile ping pong partner Tiger Woods missing the Ryder Cup with injury, could self-confessed table tennis fan Fowler partner up with "Lefty" in Scotland? Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images/file
