Snedeker finishes at 10 under par for the championship

He walks away with a cool $11.44 million

The Ryder Cup wildcard pick says he wants to help others, give to charity

Atlanta CNN  —

Brandt Snedeker bested golf’s blockbuster names Sunday to win the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup, walking away with a cool $11.44 million.

Fighting back from a poor opening round, Snedeker finished at 10 under par for the championship. In his wake, the Ryder Cup wildcard pick left rivals Justin Rose, who finished three shots back, and Luke Donald and Ryan Moore, who both trailed by four.

Former world No. 1 Tiger Woods lagged further, finishing at two under par. And Rory McIlroy, who went into the final round with a shot at winning, finished the championship at just one under.

“As nervous as I got out there today, I kept reminding myself that it’s just golf. It’s just a game. Just do the best you can and it should be good enough – and it was,” Snedeker told CNN after winning.

“It’s kind of a storybook ending for me, really.”

Snedeker won $1.44 million for the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, and snagged the additional $10 million thanks to the FedEx Cup title.

But don’t expect him to go out and buy a new car, Snedeker said. He wants to help others and donate to charity.

“We’re definitely going to give a big portion of that back,” he said.

“To live your dream, so few people get to do that. And I’m one of the select few that get to do that, so what do you do with your talent?” Snedeker asked. “Well, you try to help people out. That’s what I think you’re supposed to do … This gives me a bigger platform to make sure we can do something.”

The U.S. Ryder Cup team will face the European team later this month at Medinah, near Chicago.
