Former England soccer star Rio Ferdinand has announced his engagement to reality-television star Kate Wright, three years after the death of his first wife.

The couple shared images taken atop Nation Towers in Abu Dhabi after Ferdinand proposed, with his three children looking on.

“The perfect end to our holiday … How could the answer not be yes,” wrote Wright, who appeared on constructed reality program “The Only Way is Essex.”

Ferdinand’s first wife, Rebecca, died of breast cancer in 2015 at the age of 34, leaving three young children.

Ferdinand told the BBC in 2017: “At the beginning, I’d sit and think how am I ever going to be happy?”

“When you come into this situation you understand suicide, you understand people who do that and have those thoughts,” he added.

But he told broadcaster ITV last year that Wright’s presence in his life has helped him and his children.

Ferdinand made more than 400 appearances for Manchester United and 81 for England during his career, also playing for West Ham, Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers.
