After missing out on selection for his home Olympics at London 2012, British sailor Giles Scott has a gold medal draped around his neck.

Scott had built an unassailable lead during Sunday’s two races in the Finn class competition but he was only confirmed as the Olympic champion after Tuesday’s conclusion to the event.

His success continues Great Britain’s remarkable success in the Finn class – this is the fifth consecutive Games in which Britain has taken this title, with Ben Ainslie winning the previous three events in addition to Iain Percy’s triumph in 2000.

“It’s a huge relief,” Scott told CNN’s Amanda Davies.”To be able to put in the series I did and to be sat here and have walked away with a gold medal,” he added, “I couldn’t have asked for anymore.”
