People ordered out of terminal at Goteborg Landvetter Airport, spokeswoman says
Evacuation comes after last week's deadly attacks at Brussels Airport, metro station
The domestic terminal of one of Sweden’s largest airports was evacuated Thursday due to a suspicious object, an airport authority spokeswoman told CNN.
Everyone in Goteborg Landvetter Airport’s domestic terminal was ordered out as security officials investigated, according to the spokeswoman for the Swedavia airport authority.
The evacuation comes at a tense time for air travelers in Europe following deadly terrorist blasts last week at the Brussels Airport in Belgium. That attack and another one on the Brussels subway system killed 32 people and injured more than 300, according to Belgian authorities.
ISIS claimed credit for those attacks.
Goteborg Landvetter Airport is the main air travel hub in western Sweden, with 90 regular direct flights to destinations worldwide.
According to its website, close to 5 million travelers use the airport each year, and the facility is also a hub for air cargo.
Swedavia is a government-owned organization that operates 10 airports across the Scandinavian nation.
