Usain Bolt: The ultimate home movie?

Everyone loves a home movie – and it seems Usain Bolt is no different.

Fresh from winning the men’s 100 meter final at the World Athletics Championships Sunday, the Jamaican was back in the Beijing National Stadium – known as the Bird’s Nest – on Monday to collect his gold medal.

Looking thoroughly pleased with himself, the world’s fastest man filmed the whole thing on a video camera, posing at the top of the podium while his American rival Justin Gatlin looked on from the silver medal platform.

Bolt clinched a ninth World Championships title in a pulsating race, beating Gatlin by one 100th of a second.

Gatlin was the favorite going into the race and is still the fastest man in the world this year, but the prospect of him winning such a prestigious event was unpalatable for many given his previous doping bans.

To the delight of his legion of fans, Bolt tore up the form book to record a winning time of 9.79 seconds.

Eight-time world champion and quadruple Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson commented that the pressure applied to Gatlin by Bolt caused his compatriot to stumble and subsequently lose the race.

“Justin Gatlin fell apart a little bit at the end of the race,” Johnson told BBC Sport. “It was a stumble that wasn’t caused by anything other than Usain Bolt.

“He got all off-balance and got ready too early for his lean. It was a Bolt-forced, un-forced error and he won’t get this opportunity again.”

Trayvon Brommell of the U.S. and Canada’s Andre De Grasse shared the bronze medal after their times could not be separated.

Bolt and Gatlin will both compete in the 200 meters, which the former won in 2009, 2011 and 2013, which begins on Tuesday.
