tiger woods tease
CNN  —

Could there be an Augusta National fairytale in the making for Tiger Woods?

The 14-times major winner announced he would be returning to the famous old course after two months away from competitive golf through a statement on his website Friday.

“I’m playing in the Masters,” Woods wrote. “It’s obviously very important to me, and I want to be there.”

Woods completed a practice round at Augusta – where he won his first major way back in 1997 at the tender age of just 22 – before announcing his decision to play.

“I’ve worked a lot on my game and I’m looking forward to competing. I’m excited to get to Augusta and I appreciate everyone’s support,” he added.

Woods last played on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open in early February when he announced he would be taking an indefinite break from golf, stating his form was “not acceptable for tournament play.”

He has four green jackets among his haul of major titles, which were all claimed between 1997 and 2008.

But his last significant tour victory came at the Bridgestone Invitational in 2013 and he has rarely threatened in recent major championships.

Woods first appeared in the top 100 player rankings in September 1996 but dropped out for the first time since earlier this week.

The 2015 Masters begins on Thursday April 9.
