A fire aboard a Danish cargo ship sailing off the coast of Norway was extinguished Sunday, officials said.
The fire began Saturday in a container on the upper deck of the Britannia Seaways. The container was carrying fuel, said Bjorn Aamlid, rescue coordinator with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Southern Norway.
No injuries were reported.
Twenty crew members, 12 military personnel and nine firefighters were aboard the ship, and they helped to extinguish the flames.
The Britannia Seaways was in the North Sea en route from northern Norway to Bergen, Norway, when the fire broke out. The vessel arrived Sunday.
“Some leakage of fuel caused the fire,” said Bjorn Magnussen, controller for the rescue coordination center. “They had quite a few containers on deck on the bottom section of the vessel.”
