Germany international striker Mario Gomez grabbed a hat-trick as Bayern Munich routed Hoffenheim 7-1 Saturday.
It lifted the Bavarian giants to within five points of leaders Borussia Dortmund who were held to a goalless draw by struggling FC Augsburg in a later game.
It was also a welcome boost ahead of their midweek Champions League last 16 tie against FC Basel.
They trail 1-0 from the away leg in Switzerland.
Coach Jupp Heynckes, who is under pressure after indifferent results, including a 2-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, would also have been pleased by their performance.
Only five minutes were on the clock when Thomas Mueller saw a shot parried out and Gomez shot home.
Dutch ace Robben then converted a penalty after captain Philipp Lahm had been fouled to leave them 2-0 up after 11 minutes.
Germany midfielder Toni Kroos made it three with a long-range shot before Robben added a fourth with less than half an hour played.
Franck Ribery was the creator and it was the French star who then crossed for Gomez to head his second goal.
The hat-trick came three minutes into the second half as Gomez scored from a Robben corner.
Ribery rounded off the scoring before Bayern defender Luiz Gustavo netted a late own-goal for Hoffenheim.
Third-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach were held to a goalless draw by Freiburg to leave them three points behind Bayern.
Bayer Leverkusen capped a sorry week after a 7-1 humbling by Barcelona as they lost 3-2 at Wolfsburg.
Egypt striker Mohamed Zidan made it six goals in six games for Mainz as they beat Nuremberg 2-1.
