Louis Oosthuizen retains Africa Open title in East London
Closing 67 gives him a two-shot victory on 27-under-par
Tjaart Van der Walt and Retief Goosen finish second and third
South African players dominate tournament on home soil
Louis Oosthuizen won the Africa Open at East London Golf Club for the second year running Sunday after a closing six-under 67.
The 2010 British Open champion won by two shots from Tjaart Van der Walt with another South African Retief Goosen in third place, a further shot behind.
Starting the day tied for the lead with Van der Walt, Oosthuizen kept his nerve on the back nine to finish on 27-under 265 at the low-scoring event.
“It was a real dogfight for most of the day,” Oosthuizen told the official European Tour website.
“I remember watching Tjaart when I was an amateur, and it was just great seeing him play to his potential today.
“He played really well. He’s one of those who won’t go away. He’s not going to mess it up – he’s too consistent for that.”
Two-time U.S. Open Goosen, who like Tjaart carded a 69, is without a European Tour title for five years and could not capitalize on a strong start.
A bogey on the 10th, where he took three from the edge of the green, halted his charge and he had to settle for third.
Jaco Van Zyle finished fourth on 23-under, witb Alastair Forsyth of Scotland the first non-South African in fifth on 22-under.
