Manchester City continued their impressive form in the English Premier League on Saturday as they thrashed Norwich City 5-1 at Eastlands.

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero opened the scoring for City after 32 minutes before Samir Nasri doubled the lead with a free kick six minutes into the second half.

Yaya Toure added a third in the 68th minute before Norwich pulled one back nine minutes from the end with a Steve Morison header.

But City weren’t finished – substitute Mario Balotelli netted his ninth of the season and Adam Johnson completed the rout in injury time.

The win means City maintain their 100% home record and their five-point lead at the top of the league.

Tottenham Hotspur made it six league wins on the bounce with a comfortable 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at White Hart Lane.

Gareth Bale struck in the seventh minute before the visitors were reduced to 10 men when defender Gary Cahill was shown a red card for a tackle on Scott Parker.

Aaron Lennon made it 2-0 in the 50th minute with Jermain Defoe adding a third 10 minutes later to leave Bolton stuck in the bottom three with just nine points from 14 games.

Tottenham stay third behind Manchester United who battled to a 1-0 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

A Phil Jones strike in the 20th minute was enough to ensure United stay five points behind their city rivals. Aston Villa remain in 9th place with 16 points.

Arsenal continued their recent resurgence with a 4-0 win at Wigan.

First half goals from Mikel Arteta and Thomas Vermaelen put the Gunners in control while Gervinho’s 61st minute strike ensured three points.

Robin van Persie fired home his 13th league goal of the season with 12 minutes remaining to send Arsene Wenger’s men up to fifth in the table.

Sunderland name O’Neill as new boss

Chelsea returned to winning ways after their Carling Cup defeat in midweek with a 3-0 win over Newcastle United at St James Park.

Didier Drogba put the Blues in front seven minutes before the break, heading home from a Juan Mata cross.

The goal remained the only difference between the sides until the 89th minute when substitute Salomon Kalou made sure of the three points with Daniel Sturridge adding a third in injury time.

The mid-table tussle between Queens Park Rangers and West Bromwich Albion ended in a 1-1 draw at Loftus Road.

Iceland striker Heidar Helguson headed in Joey Barton’s cross to give the home side the lead in the 20th minute, but Shane Long earned a point for the visitors in the 81st minute when he fired home from close range.

Yakubu relieved some of the pressure on his boss Steve Kean as he scored all four Blackburn Rovers’ goals in a 4-2 win over Swansea City at Ewood Park.

A brace in each half from the Nigerian striker canceled out goals from strikers Leroy Lita and Luke Moore to lift Blackburn to 18th place in the table with 10 points.

Swansea are now 14th with 14 ponts from 14 league games this season.
